European secondary fuels specialist, Geminor, has been awarded a contract to manage the recovery of c. 35 000 tonnes of refuse derived fuel (RDF) per year.
The five-year contract, awarded by CWM Environmental Ltd – Carmarthenshire’s waste management Teckal company – will see RDF from CWM’s Nantycaws facility recovered through Geminor’s European export market. The secondary fuel will be used in the production of renewable heat and power for thousands of homes and businesses in the region.
James Maiden, UK Country Manager at Geminor, commented:
– Carmarthenshire’s waste will become a highly beneficial source of green energy. What’s more, through the use of empty load logistics, the entire project will result in minimal CO2 emissions – a highly sustainable and economical solution.
– We are looking forward to working in close partnership with CWM Environmental to implement a new, sustainable approach to waste management.
Sean Gallagher, Operations Director at CWM Environmental, added:
– We were impressed with the solution Geminor offered for Carmarthenshire’s residual waste, and the range of contingency options they have in place. We look forward to working with Geminor on this contract and are pleased to have a sustainable solution for our residual waste.
The agreement, which followed a competitive tender process, has been initially agreed for five years, with the option for extension of up to five years, in one year increments.
